Leak Check Charge

Doing a leak test on EVERY out of gas situation is policy for most, if not all companies. The reason? Liability. Out of gas situations have a far greater share of leaks and liability claims. You say you run a business. What if your insurer said if you don't have this policy your rates will be much, much higher? You are probably a will-call customer. Will-call customers also have a much higher claim rate than auto fill. I would be wary of any company that does not follow this practice. You can bet they don't have the $$ to cover a claim.

they all do that to make more money did it to the couple next door didnt find find any leak. held my payment 12 days past the day they cash my check kicked me off budget plan. last time they delived propane guy let a lot of propane into the air at least 10 gallons

Yes, they are doing this to us too. It seems that they want you to run out of propane so that they can do a leak check and charge you the extra money. The government allows them to do this, so I guess we can't fight them. That is not my only problem with Amerigas. There are several.

And yes, the do hold your payment so that it is late, and they can charge you a "overdue" charge. Government needs to check up on these guys. I filed a complaint with BBB.

Amerigas - Alabama (Huntsville)

On 15 January 2014 I contacted Amerigas in Huntsville, AL regarding filling our propane tank at our new home. The person I spoke with quoted me a price and noted that their service would be provided the next week. That date came and no one showed up. The next day their office was called and I was assured that the gas would be delivered the next week on a Tuesday. I noted that my tank was completely empty at that point and we had an arctic air system forecast with near zero weather. The person I spoke with assured me that the tank would be filled that Tuesday. On the delivery date my wife was called by a Amerigas representative stating that they had to delay the delivery to the next day because they had two emergencies. They did now show up the next day and my family is in a home without gas during freezing temperatures. I called and was told that the company could not deliver gas until the next Tuesday. I was angry with the continuing delay and asked the representative I spoke to whether they wanted our business or not. I was assured that the company wanted our business and would deliver gas the next Monday. On Friday we received a call noting that their driver would be (and I quote) 'ill' on Monday and the gas would be delivered by Heritage Propane sometime in the next week. Two weeks hence we have not heard from Heritage or Amerigas.

I can understand delays but this company absolutely lied about their circumstances and their wanting our business. As a result we have contracted other companies about our circumstance, non of which were complimentary of Amerigas, but a shortage now exists because of the continuing bad weather in this region.

Amerigas is absolutely the worst company I have ever dealt with from a standpoint of customer service. They never told us they could not take our order and, in fact, stated that they had the propane to fill our order 'if we took the full 330 gallons for the first delivery'. That bit of information came on my last call to the company.

It is obvious that their business model gets you over a barrel and desperate for a delivery and then they inform you that you have to buy a full tank on your first order. Very unprofessional business and very dishonest.
