Aspen dental practice!

Just had an interesting encounter with Aspen Dental in Concord, NH. My husband went in in August to see about getting mini-implants and a denture for his lower mouth. The quote was $3589. After his return home he told me that the dentist he saw was unsure he had enough bone to do the implants and would need to see the dentist who does the work. Since the receptionist knew when I called for the appointment what we were interested in, one would have thought she would have set up the appointment with the correct dentist. First problem, and wait it gets better. Earlier this month (December) I called again to make an appointment for my husband to see the correct dentist since they can't figure this out. He was seen told this procedure would work on him and given an estimate for the work, as well as a request for payment. Since we had already called our dental insurance carrier, we knew what would be covered. 50% of the denture $1399 and 50% of the implants at $525ea for $2100. The estimate for the work which is now a total of $3499, ( don't ask me why its less) also indicated an insurance allowance of $499.50. Well 50% of the denture is $699.50, their first mistake and ours too. So I call Delta again for the 3rd time, and am informed I do have 50% coverage for this and 50% coverage for the implants. The customer service lady just had the procedure done and was well aware what they pay for. So I called Aspen and told them Delta pays for 50% of the implants and asked them to request a predetermination from Delta. Again, Aspen told me they would pay for them. I call Delta again, this time I speak with 2 customer service people. Both tell me the same thing. All 5 can't be wrong. Anyway, the last man looks up information and finds that Aspen uses incorrect procedure codes for this process and the result is this service gets sent to review, which will eventually authorize and pay for the procedure. He also tells me that review will request more information from Aspen about the procedure. Further, the Delta representative calls Aspen and tells them they are using the wrong code and that we do have an allowance for this procedure. Not much to tell, there are no extractions involved and no x-rays taken. Anyway, 2 weeks later he goes in for the procedure and of course they want their money first. We had already paid $1400, using their numbers leaves a balance of $1599. Nope, they want $1624. My math says they should only get $1099 after insurance. So now they send me into Mari (the office manager) who tells me "I've done thousands of these and they don't pay for implants". Now she knows more than Delta does. In the meantime when we got home I found my outline of coverage and it specifically states the allowance for implants as does my handbook with a description of benefits. She also tells me she doesn't have the code that Delta says to use in her computer. So if she doesn't have it, what does it take to get it in there if Delta is giving it to them and eliminate all this headache and OVERCHARGE. There is a word for what they are doing and it's not very pretty. At this point she tells me if they pay and if there is a credit, they will refund it in 10 days. What, they didn't wait 10 days for their money. No where in their refund policy does it say I have to wait 10 days because they overcharged me due to their errors. They had and were given the correct information multiple times and chose not to use it. How many people do they do this to and no one checks their insurance coverage. They are trying to use a one size fits all for insurance purposes and fleecing Joe Public who pays dearly for insurance coverage and isn't afforded the opportunity to use it. Worse, how many times are they paid twice and never make the refund to the patient. It seems this is their way of doing business and it didn't work to well in Pennsylvania. The Attorney General got involved and Aspen made a $125, 000 settlement. Guess where I'm headed. Here's the math: Total bill $3499 ($1000) insurance allowance: $2499 should have been out of pocket, not $3024.50. This might be appropriate business practice in New York, but I don't think it will fly here. They owe me $525.50 and I'm not letting it go! The sad part of this is in 2008 my husband got his upper denture from them and they were awesome. I can't believe this has happened. I guess I should have looked at this site first!

Aspen dental practice!

There is a class action lawsuit being filed and we need your help with information relative your experience with Aspen Dental.

Please contact me at [email protected] to provide a contact number that I can provide to the attorney filing the action. Your help would be very much appreciated. Aspen has complaints against them all over the country and we need to put a stop to their wrongful business practices.

Aspen dental practice!

WOW!!! I am so glad I read this first...I will stick to my dentist..I wonder...are these dentists straight out of Dental school? it seems to me they are. based on what I am reading, they seem very inexperienced. Also, I think when a dental practice goes corporate, it is a horrible idea. When it comes to a private practice, it is more personal, they remember who you are, they are friendlier and you get better quality care. Everywhere I go, I see Aspen Dental offices everywhere...hanover, Plymouth...With most dental insurance plans, ( I know with mine) they pay 50% of the bill and I would have to pay the other half and a small deductable. I am shocked by what is going on with the billing issues...and having collectiion agencies call on top of that? omg !Has anyone also written their complaints to the Better Business Bureau? I would not stop here...keep the complaints coming until something has been resolved. Good luck to all of you guys out there, I hope you get some kind of resolution

dentures

I too have had. and am still having major problems with the Dentures they sold to me. When I first went to Aspen Dental I didn't think that I needed Dentures. I was a 29 - 30 year old female that had been in a major car accident years earlier resulting in my whole face and head crashing through the windshield when the other car hit me. When this happened I had a Jolly Rancher in my mouth and it was about 5:30 pm, the end of December, very dark and pouring rain. The women that hit me didn't have her headlights on and was pulling out from a side street onto the main street that I was driving on. I didn't see her at all until it was too late, my foot didn't even make it to the brake. I was on my way to the pharmacy to purchase a home pregnancy test. So, they tested me in the emergency room before giving me any medications or other tests and the good news out of the evening was that by the grace of god, yes I was pregnant and very happy about the news. The only problem is nobody would help me with my teeth or all the glass they were trying to pull as many little pieces out as possible and I ended up with close to 300 stitches in my forehead alone, I tried to stay as strong as possible because of the pregnancy (my son I was now lucky to still be carrying), I also ended up with many other medical problems I received that evening. I digress, let me get back to Aspen Dental of Rhode Island. Now at this time I am a single mother to a beautiful son. I was working but I didn't get any help from his father at all. I didn't have money to spend on me. I knew that I would need some extractions, crowns, caps, bonding and a partial but they tell me I would go though much less pain if I had them all extracted on top and purchased their best Dentures, at the time cost $1, 299. They knew I didn't have the money for that type of dental work. All together after my dental coverage I would still owe all together close to $4, 500 because they said that you can't do only the top Dentures, that i needed to also do the bottom Dentures. They told me that they wouldn't do any other type of work on my mouth because it would look terrible unless I did upper and lower Dentures. They told me that I would look unattractive unless I get only complete Dentures. I have always been terrified of Dentists but these people that gave me the consultation made me so uncomfortable. I didn't have the money but it was tax time so I used my tax refund that I needed badly fir other things at the time to get just the top done and boy did that was a horrifying experience! Unbelievable what they had to do to pull out my teeth and then crack off all the bone and sew it all up. Then they put in the temporary teeth which did look nice, very nice, I had complements and Aspen Dental had received at least 6 more patients through me because of how nice they looked, but they were so expensive and made out of this extra strong stuff that the other levels of Dentures were not made. So, they look great and I have wait for my gums to recede to get the permanent Dentures. After a short time, they broke. I went back and they fixed them the best they could is what I was told. When I got my permanent Dentures they looked liked I had very short teeth, I didn't have the same smile, They said that it was the same mold they used, they said they were fine. Then a month later I noticed my teeth on one side of my mouth were shorter than the other side. They looked filed down. Even my little boy kept asking me what is wrong with my teeth. He is my world, this is the angel that survived with me through the accident that broke my teeth. I had to wait a long time and now I was being taken advantage of by Aspen Dental. Aspen Dental then told me that they no longer accept my dental coverage. I still had even more problems with them but this too long already. I understand your problem with your Dentures. If I knew then what I know now!
People Beware!Check around, get references from patient if you can, they have to be willing but most dentist have patients that are willing to give recommendations for them if they're good at what they do. Make sure its not someone that was just worked on. Try to talk to patients after they have had their Dentures for quite some time. Wherever you go, Good Luck.

Aspen dental practice!

Aspen dental told my wife she needed to have her roots cleaned and it would cost $1, 500 after what the insurance would cover. My wife said she was there to get her teeth cleaned, not her roots, her regular teeth cleaning is 100% covered and that is all she would have. The hygienist went on and on about how she needed her roots cleaned. My wife said "I care about feeding my kids more than I care about my roots, I don't care if all my teeth fall out I won't let my kids go hungry for a dental cleaning." The hygienist then said okay we can do the cleaning minus a special antibiotic we use and it will only cost you $166. My wife then said "that's more like it" and agreed to do the process. That is shady for sure.

It is also important to note the fluoride treatment they offer people at the end of a cleaning for $35 is 100% covered by 90% of the dental insurances out there so check with them because Aspen will charge you and charge your insurance both and it's really nothing more than Biotene than you can get a big bottle of from Wal-mart for $8 and do at home daily.

Unethical Behavior and Shoddy Work

Aspen Dental needs to rethink the way thy handle there corp. Stop with the numbers and start looking at the employees. The Wausau WI office Manager runs the place like it is hers and not Aspen. Does not follow Aspen procedures and does things her way. I understand her numbers are good but production is poor. She over books her Dr.s to were pt. are waiting hours for appointments. Schedules pt. when the cases from the lab are not even complete. Making the Pt. wait even more. How can you allow someone to continue working like this. You say you are a great company to work for but let people like this continue to work. You take a good Denture Tech. and let him go but keep one the doesn't even follow Aspen protocol.

INcompetent Work

I was worked on over 4 hours. They know I had pancreatitis and this wasn't acceptable to me. I couldn't stop them before they had all kinds of d toholes in my head. I ended up in thehospital and they I lost a crown eating only a baked potato. They tried to make me think this was all my fault. The dental hygienist I felt was very rude and condescending and I know her name and I could tell it to you in a flash. They started to give me a shot and pull the tooth. I told them they couldn't do that without antibiotics, and they knew I had pancreatitis. However, they never checked my chart. I have pancreatitits and they know that, it's on my chart. Once they find out Ihad pancreatitis and they weren't pulling my tooth, he immediately changed his tune. He put on another crown and talked about how much better this one was. Why didn't thy do this before were the dollar signs in his eyes. I can't believe how rude that hygienist she was. They need to leave that television off, he told me hehad ADD and then he would ge to watching that TV and forget all over about. He was laughing about the pregnant model etc. It was a terrible experience. I had heard good things about Aspen, but however I found none of these thingsto be true. There is entireley toomuch screwing around going on in that office and I definitely did not need to knowmy dentist was ADD, especailly after he was so involved The Prce is Right. He would get to laughing so hard he would stomp his foot and light. The secretary had to tell him to stop playing and get me done, I wasn't out of there. Ihave to eat and take meds at least 11 times a day and they knew that and for them to say different that was not true. If I am able to keep this crown and a bridge is not necessary I will believe the bridge was and is not necessary and he is just simply money hungry with dollar signs in his eyes. This entire experience has been a nightmore. I teach, think how many people I can let know to stay away from Aspen and believe me I will.

Aspen Dental work shoddy

I had infection in my lower wisdom's. they told me that they need to be pulled along with my upper teeth and have dentures made for the top. Well they pulled the top made my upper denture. Well they where to big so went back they cut and filled well now they still don't fit, when i eat the wobble because the one side is filled to much and when the cut them they cut to far and left the extra cut there so when i complained to them they said they can't do anymore fixing to them. Also on top of all that they left my bottom wisdom teeth that where infected in, they never pulled them.

bottom denture doesn't fit

I started seeing them in June.. this is the end of October and still can't eat... they seem to have the thought that my bottom gum is shaped like a triangle.. because the plate does not sit flat, the sides have to take the force of the chewing.. I now have several sore spots and calluses forming.. only put them in to eat and go out in public.. there is no way this company should be promoted or recommended to others.. is it run by first year students ?

Sick of it

A couple of years ago I went to Aspen Dental in Enfield CT. At first I thought it was going to be great. I had a broken upper plate and needed some bottom teeth taken out and lower dentures put in.

Everyone was friendly. When I was brought in to see the office manager she wouldn't even talk about the less expensive dentures. I wanted to look at them and talk about them but she convinced me that going the best was the only way to go. Especially since I was going to finance them.

So I made my down payment and signed on the dotted line. From then on I had nothing but problems. They wanted to make a mold of my upper plate and I kept telling them no because there is a crack in it and the pressure will break them. I was told they couldn't guarantee the fit of my upper plate then.

No one would listen to what I wanted. When it was time to take out the bottom teeth it was agonizing. I understand I had an infection. Shouldn't we have waited longer and given the antibiotic more time to work? I could feel every bit of the last tooth coming out.

Each and every fitting I went to no one would listen to me. They put the upper dentures in my mouth and they were so big there was barely a space between upper and lower.

Finally they called because I missed a payment so I said can I pay now with my credit card and she said no they don't take payments over the phone. I was leaving that day for two weeks for work and I could not even pay my bill.

I had enough. No matter who I talked to, which each time was a different person because people kept changing, no one cared about helping.

So I still have a broken upper plate and ill fitting bottom plate. And I was supposed to pay $4,000 for this!! I wrote a letter to the manager which I never got a response to. I just can't believe I had waited so many years for new plates and ended up with crap.

Sincerely,

Rose Johnson

Strong Arm Practice

I'm a 52 year old health care professional who made an appointment with Aspen Dentle for a cleaning and a checkup - all covered by my insurance. I chose Aspen because they have after hour hours and it was better for me in the line of work I am in. After getting X-rays done by a tech who cut my gums with the X-ray tabs and almost knocking a tooth out by slamming the X-ray machine into my jaw, I was seen by the hygienist for 5 minutes and the dentist for 5 minutes...then I was ushered into the "office manager's" office to discuss my dental care. I was told by the office manager, who has NO background in health care, not to mention dentistry, that before anything can be done I had to pay an additional $1600 for work I did not need, did not ask for, and was not required. I told the "office manager" I just want my teeth cleaned and one tooth looked at. The "office manager" told me Aspen Dental would do no further work on me until I agreed to pay the $1600 because he was not going to put his dentis' license in jeopardy, and that is what he would be doing if I didn't get done what they were telling me I had to have done and that they would set me up with a payment plan if I wanted. Bottom line...I used up my yearly check up and X-rays, and did not get anything done on my teeth. But I can tell you that they were paid!! And fighting with my insurance company has been futile. I will be finding a lawyer and I will take this as far as I can. Aspen strong arm practice of scaring people into procedures they don't need and prove to be detrimental to their health needs to stop!!!

Denture Disaster

About 2 years ago an Aspen dentist recommended dentures for my dental problems: Full uppers & partial lowers. The recommended plan included crowns for 4 of the remaining 6 lower teeth. At that time I asked about the advisability of removing all my teeth & getting full upper & lower dentures. I was told I would be much happier if I followed the Aspen recommendation. I followed this advice and paid about $15,000 for the treatment which included about $10,000 for the 4 crowns. Several weeks ago, I noticed a problem with one of my remaining lower teeth. I went back to Aspen & was examined. I was told that all of Aspen's previous dental work needed to be removed & replaced with a full lower denture. The quoted cost is $4881.80. In my opinion, I was given an incredibly bad initial treatment plan recommendation by Aspen & that I paid dearly for putting my trust in Aspen. Aspen has not accepted any responsibility at all for this situation & has shown no interest in sharing the financial burden of their incorrect recommendation. Aspen seems more interested in extracting more money from me. I do not want charity. I do expect professional dental care combined with honesty, integrity, sincerity & responsibility. I find it impossible to believe that the Aspen "profit sharing" (i.e. employee compensation plan) business model was designed to meet any of these expectations. Aspen encourages patients to submit reviews on Google & Facebook; however, the reviews shown on the Aspen website do not include the 1 & 2 star reviews & only a portion of the 3 star reviews. Check the job search sites for negative job reviews by present & former Aspen employees. Check the Better Business Bureau (BBB) website to see many other negative reviews & serious complaints.
