Time of completion, customer service

I had a "somewhat" similar experience with Barnette's - in that the delivery was later than originally requested. However, I found the communication process good, and I was kept updated on the progress of my order. In my case, the delays were the result of Barnette's not being able to obtain a quality core to build on (they went through at least two before finding one that passed all of their stringent quality checks). They also had a delay when the first camshaft they received from their supplier did not meet their standards. Yes, my engine was delayed a couple weeks, but the engine they finally shipped has proven thus far to be outstanding. In fact, the shop that installed the engine had high praise for the quality. Unlike the person that filed this complaint, I did not experience a financial impact, but was only inconvenienced by not having my Jeep Wrangler 4.0 back on the road in a timely manner. In my case, the quality of the motor, the best warranty I've seen, and the lowest price mean a lot!

Warranty NOT honored by Barnette's

In Oct. 2010 I purchased a rebuilt 2000 Grand Cherokee V8 engine from Barnette's. It started throwing codes for misfiring on two cylinders, and had oil in the water . Called them and then Changed coil packs and flushed the engine . Turned out to be my intake manifold for the oil, not Barnette's fault . OK but still misfiring now on three or more cylinders . Called again Low oil pressure on the right Its now Sept 2011 My mechanic was trying to diagnose why it was still misfiring and the right head blew . . Barnette's had us put it out with all the tin on and sent it to them .Once there Steve said the warranty was voided because the heat tabs started to melt. I wouldn't pay them more to fix the problem, so they sent it back to me without checking out what the problem was . Then charged me for the round trip shipping! I repaired all and it was still misfiring . replaced the cam and crank sensors . replaced the right side cam tension-er More tests the right side oil pressure is two low oil. One of the oil galley's is blocked . Mr Barnette told me that if there is oil in/on the head it is not blocked . I am almost 6000 into this repair .
Mr Barnette insulted my mechanic while questioning him on the events of the past year and got mad because the mechanic said the problem was the fault of the engine in the first place . Every question was geared to point blame on the repair or the use of the engine but not accepting that the oil line is plugged . I have no vehicle
Bottom line I didn't have a chance with this company if you believe in a warranty to protect you then I suggest you buy somewhere else . I did every thing Barnette's asked to no avail . Good luck to you if you go with them.

Thanks, Tim

Barnettes Remanufactured Engines

Barnette’s Engines has high standards and strives to produce quality products. Our company has almost 20 years under our belt and we produce nearly 1200 engines a year. There are many things that come into play when installing a newly remanufactured engine in order for the product to perform properly. Barnette’s is only one-half of the equation when it comes to replacing an engine. That being said, Barnette’s Engines cannot control certain aspects regarding the working condition of the vehicle the product is installed. The professionalism, experience, and certification of the installer are key! Another factor to consider is the re-usability and condition of the parts that have to be transferred onto the engine not supplied by Barnette’s Engines. A Barnette’s remanufactured engines consist of the block with all new internal components, completely remanufactured cylinder heads, and new oil pump and a full gasket set. The engine accessories (ie. manifolds, carburetor/fuel inj. ignition, water pump, radiator, belts and hoses etc) all have to transfer to the long block and be properly installed. These transferred parts must also be in good working condition. Lastly, pulling the old engine and putting a remanufactured engine is not going to magically fix the vehicles problem. The underlying problem that caused the original engine failure must be addressed and repaired prior to putting in a new engine.

Barnette’s Engines cannot control the installer that a customer chooses to do their installation. We do not have authorized installers. It is an installer chosen by the customer, so it is very important for customers to thoroughly research the shop/installer who is performing their installation.

While nobody wants to see a warranty issue, there is a rather simple process in place to get a customer’s complaint taken care of. It starts with a telephone call, some diagnostic work, then either a field repair, or authorization to return the defective engine. Barnette’s reserves the right to determine the cause of failure before repairing or issuing a replacement. Labor, however is not guaranteed and only paid after the defective unit is inspected and determined to have failed due to parts or workmanship issues. Unless it is something blatant on the installation side, Barnette’s Engines always works with the customer and installer to get the problem fixed.

Barnette’s Engines strives to produce a perfect product all the time, but we all know nobody does that in any kind of industry, especially automotive. Mistakes are made. That being said, it’s easy for people use the anonymity of the internet to badmouth someone or a product, or to create some exaggerated one sided story. It’s easy to hide behind a keyboard. Here at Barnette’s Engines, customer service is a top priority and although we can’t make everyone happy we sure do make a valiant effort.

Rebuttal to the Jan 23rd complaint

I think in general when the first thing Joyce says is Its not our fault its your installers fault, never Barnettes fault, but that is not true, especially in my case and we all know my case with my still ticking engine...ah the ticking how nice....NOT
I have some important information if you are interested in getting the Attorney Generals Office in Virginia involved with your complaint here is what you need to do.. Go to this site http://epm.virginiainteractive.org/consumercomplaints/consumerComplaintForm.aspx and fill out the online complaint form, you can attach pictures but I recommend you wait until your investigator gets in touch with you and then you can email them to him directly. Also you will want to send a hard copy to the investigator and you will want to do return receipt, the investigator only has two complaints, we need more complaints before we can get the Attorney general to take us seriously.

Happy Customer...Happy review

Very pleased with my engine and was shocked to see some of these other issues. I can only speak for myself, but I have had my engine in and running beautifully. The freight company did show up without a elevator to unload the engine and it had to be redelivered, but the driver from the trucking service helped me unload it.

product liabilty

Purchased an engine from Barnettes on 11/18/11 recvd engine 12/19/11 of course it was late coming. Engine installed didnt make it to 4000 miles and the head gasket blew, engine didnt overheat and that is the only reason that Barnettes didnt hassle me about the warranty and the usual BS that I have read on here. I sent my engine back to Barnettes in October 2012 and they admitted it had a defaulted head gasket in it and supposedly Barnettes reworked the cylinder heads and reassembled the engine and shipped it back to my mechanic. When the engine arrived it had a cam shaft that was too big and the cylinder head were on the wrong way and the head bolts were rusted and pitted, also the same gasket that had defaulted was put back into the engine. Present day engine burning oil again, loud lifter noises and it has almost overheated but I saved it by turning on the heat full blast while driving in 100 degree heat, so awesome huh...NOT. Joyce is a joke, so is barnettes and so is their State of the Art facility, they do not test the engines...DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!
