Worst after-school care available
Camp Australia is dismal. Having moved from a school where the after-school care was not Camp Australia, and moving to a school where it is Camp Australia, I have really noticed the poor organisation and focus on gouging every last dollar possible out of working parents. Say you are a shift worker, who works odd shifts. If you have your children in after school care on a casual booking, you pay more. So, a solution might be to put your kids into care on a regular booking, with the option to cancel with fair notice, and not have to pay. However, you have to cancel your regular booking before seven days of the date of care, or you still pay whether your children are there or not. Too bad if the roster release falls just inside seven days! Understand the need for notice, but greater than seven days is a bit rich - Camp Australia can't argue it's staffing, as you can put your child into care casually at very short notice - if you are willing to cough up the additional 10-bucks-per-day-per-child short-notice fee it's no worries resources-wise! However, I believe that if you organise to put your child in at short notice with greater than 48 hours you will incur casual fees but not have to pay the late fee - I guess that is somewhat charitable of Camp Australia - at least it's reasonable. These fee conditions and several other seemingly unsolveable difficulties have been patiently explained to me by the offshore telecentre staff, who are no doubt being paid peanuts. The staff that care for the kids are fine, but no doubt are also being paid peanuts, by the most expensive after school care organisation. Schools, go for an independent provider! Don't rope yourself into this abysmal company!
