Thank You all for your opinions. It is so great to have this board open to potential employees. If I hadn't seen this, I too would have been a sucker for this Company...Again, Thanks!

Bob Gallup has ruined Defender, they talk about Character, Competence, and Humility. Bob displays none of them but he does add to the bottom line and that is all they really want. He has taken pay away every year to fuel his desire to buy more toys. Its great to know he has such a lavish lifestyle and the installers take pay cuts. The fact is Bob is a wolf in sheeps clothing. Know one believes in the culture because of Bob Gallup and his hypocritic ways. Go be a drunk and stop hiding the fact that you have a little dick. Everyone already knows, you fake.

Defender is a capitalistic business like most others, so don't get me wrong about anything I'm about to say. However, as an employee there, it's hard to notice the fact that they hire a new batch of trainees EVERY WEEK. Why? Because of their turn and burn philosophy to employees. It's your job to coax people with bad credit to spend hundreds of dollars on something, when they expect to get it for the 19.99 advertised in the newspaper. And that 'pre-qualified leads' thing they put in their description is utter BS. The people on the transfer lines are paid to give a customer over to a sales rep, and they get their money once the call is transferred. It doesn't matter to them if the person called in yesterday and couldn't afford it, or if the person doesn't even have a credit/debit card, which is a requirement of the highest order! Hey, if you think you can schill lower income families into plopping 300 bucks down in a single payment for a few TV's and a DVR, this job is for you. If you resent that rah-rah, smile-with-dead-eyes corporate attitude with a job that will burn you down before you qualify for benefits, then no, it isn't. Don't buy into the first week's 'family and growth' message they shove you during the seminars; once you're on the floor, it evaporates into dust.

I wholeheartedly agree with all of the negative things being said about Defender Direct. My husband works for this company and they are ass backwards if you ask me. The pay structure has to be illegal and they do not care about their employees at all. These guys have to get up and be to work at 6:45 am just to find out if they have a job that day. If they don't they are sent home without any kind of pay and are asked to be "on call" for the rest of the day. So basically you're not getting paid to work and you can't do anything of a personal nature because you are technically "on call". I don't understand this. He could also be dispatched to a job right next door to home, but has to still go to the office 30 miles away each morning regardless. Every year they send him on the worst flight to Indianapolis for their annual conference which he is NOT paid for. He spends two days there and then comes home on the worst flight ever. Losing two days of work for a mandatory conference. Isn't that illegal? The benefits are so horrible they almost don't exist. No paid time off, no sick time, the health insurance is worthless. Not to mention, they have a sales staff getting the customers who give the customers everything they need for a very plump security system and then send the techs out there to install it. Since these guys are working on commission only how are they supposed to make any money if the customer has already been given everything for free? They preach honesty, integrity and Christian values but I see none of this in their practices or treatment of their employees. They recently restructured their pay process. My husbands checks have been as little as $200 lately working a full week. Who can live on that? Not to mention he isn't doing anything different and used to make a living wage. Now all of a sudden the pay drops to nothing and there is no explanation for it. he has been working for DD for a little over a year and busting his ass to find another job. He feels fortunate to have a job but I'm beginning to get fed up with this company's practices. please be wary and educate yourself on pay practices with this company before you sign up. Get everything they promise you in writing and follow up on it. Don't let them get away with brushing pay you have coming under a rug.

I am sorry you had a bad experience as an employee. Defender is an amazing company, they care about their employees as well as the families. Some of the things that you mentioned are not accurate. Defender does in fact have you drive your car, but they pay gas for the job, what is the big deal. THIS IS YOUR BUSINESS. YOU are the authorized dealer, YOU are the one who decides how you do in your job and how the customers are treated. Why do you feel guilty. The whole point is to show the customer where their home is not protected. This is to educate them and give them all the knowledge possible, then let THEM make that choice. They pay great, if you do the work, you have a great attitude and put 100% into your job, you are going to do awesome. The System is the Solution, you do it, it works, you cut corners, your negative and you don't believe in it, of course it didn't work. It didn't fail you, YOU failed the system. Grow up, Defender holds your hand during training, but after that its time to walk on you own. They are always there for advice, feed back and questions. I have an amazing team, regional manager as well as other awesome employees I can look up to, and learn from. Every customer is different, every job is different, and they are all worth it. Even if there is no upgrade or sale in the installation, you are getting paid gas and installation and knowing that family has piece of mind is a bonus.

I worked for Defender for almost 4 years in multiple states on the installation/management side of the house. I knew Defender was full of crap before I started there. I had a friend that got a job and came back from training excited about this company. I worked for ADT for 5 years so most of the things that were told to me made me laugh my butt off and I felt terrible about busting their bubble pointing out some of the lies. Once I saw what the techs did and how much their paychecks were, I wanted in despite what I knew already. This was prior to Bob Gallup when it was easier to do your job without pulling all of your hair out. After Bob Gallup came on, I watched offices all over the country clear out a lot of good technicians and offices cutting corners on installations that put thousands of customers in danger if they ever have a real need for their system to work. I was one of the few people with ADT pricing sheets and other than the $99 base kit, Defender is a lot higher ADT pricing. I feel sorry for anyone that buys into the Defender Way. The person I got hired through, who lived, ate, and breathed Defender because they believed in the ideals, was fired within 6 months because they spoke up about company wrongs that should be corrected and I watch them lose their mind after the termination. Over my 4 years, I watched many techs, from California to Virginia, have nervous breakdowns, heart attacks and all sorts of health and family issues due to the pressure of never knowing if today is your last day. As a manager, I'm sure I contributed to some of those breakdowns because pressure was put on me to make them perform. I did my best to help as many techs as I could and tried to show them how to beat the Defender system to hold their jobs longer. I even put my butt on the line to save some, which was never looked at as favorable by corporate, and eventually led to my demise. Needless to say, out of a tech training class of 23, only 1 other person was still employed when I was finally released. Some of the best techs I ever hired, usually quit within a couple months because I did not sugar coat the BS of the company. I'd even be a professional reference for them if they needed it. And don't even think about filing a formal complaint with HR unless you have a case that violates Federal regulations so you can get a lawyer involved. Jeannetta Anderson is a worthless piece of crap if you're an employee looking for assistance. If you are still a current employee, be warned that anything you say to her will not stay with her. She is not on your side. She is only there to protect company's liability and keep you quiet and in line. I watched many complaints regarding unfair treatment, payroll tampering, and worker compensation go without answer. I have every phone call I have ever had with her (and everyone else I ever spoke to at the Corporate office) since 2008 recorded and ready to go to lawyers if they need explicit examples of Defender's knowledge of unfair trade practices and Federal violations. Defender is not a career move, but the money can be good if you can sell. If you decide to work there, stack your paper as fast as you can and get the hell out. There are a multiple class-action suits against Defender, which will hopefully, finally give some much deserved relief to the hundreds of technicians that have been insulted, mistreated and injured over the years. I'm sure more suits will come as favorable outcomes are reached to hopefully make this company reform some of it's ill-conceived practices.
