Smell
In response to ydnas post, I thought it was just me. I purchased my air filter/cleaner a couple years ago, and it has sat in storage most of the time. Living in the desert, and having two cats, and minor allergies, I thought this would help. The first time I used it, I had it in a position where I had to walk right by it a few times a day. After a couple days, I was about to go to the hospital, with chest pains and shortness of breath. I tried not to breathe as I walked by it. So I shut it off for a while, and my symptoms stopped. Since I couldn't return it, I moved it to the corner of the LR ( I had a very large living room), and I was ok with that. As long as I wasn't walking by it, breathing in whatever chemicals are in the charcoal filters, I was ok. It does and did work well, but only under those conditions. I have a friend who is asmatic, and uses one with no ill effects. But I will be getting rid of it because I live in a small room now, so it won't work for me. Just to let you know. :)
