Fraud!! Scam!! Rip-off!!!
I called the phone number listed on the direct hotel webpage in order to make the reservations for a friend of my brothers that was arriving in town late that evening. At no time was I advised that I was dealing with Getaroom.com. The reason why I was calling in my reservations directly and not booking online is because I live locally and I wanted the best rate possible at Fairfield Inn by Marriott in Laguna Hills California.
When the guest showed up at the hotel reception they had no record of her reservations. After insisting that there was a reservation the clerk quoted a rate of $129 a night, which is the proper hotel rate, while getaroom.com was charging $201 per night plus other outrageous service fees. At this point we had been told that there would be a confirmation email which we never received. Miraculously two days after we reported the rip off scam we got an email confirmation from Getaroom.com. This email confirmation had never arrived before. Apparently Getaroom.com has the ability to backdate emails in order to scam their customers a little better.
We also never received a breakdown of what the charges were going to be. This miracle email did have a breakdown of charges since we had mentioned the lack of proper documentation.
The initial reservation was made for four nights (August 5th thru August 9, 2019) yet upon check-in we told the clerk that the guest would probably check out the following day. Indeed, the guest checked out August 6th 2019. Total stay - only 1 night, not 4.
The clerk at the front desk refused to close out the bill after one night but instead insisted that we hang onto the key to that room for the four nights so they could rip us off for $1018.15. This is absurd as there was no guest in that room any of the additional nights. I have no problem paying for the night that my guest was there but, I do have a problem having to pay for an additional three nights for a guest that was not taking up a room at the hotel. Getaroom.com refuses to charge me just one night as well as the hotel acts like they cannot close out my bill until Friday August 9, 2019 which makes my bill in the amount of $1081.15. At this very moment I am being ripped off and paying for a room that no one is using.
Another important point is that upon registration the hotel clerk never asked for any ID whatsoever or verification of credit card or any important document as the scam had already been processed. Ref Conf # R1603639734
