Fraud
BEWARE OF HERTZ, for sure in Italy! Like many other customers (check online) I received 3 charges via credit card by Hertz months after a rental in Rome. I thought from the reviews that the problem was the HERTZ ITALIANA SPA ROMA, but after contacting the Hertz HQs in the USA and explaining I got this response that makes me think HERTZ knows of this fraud, covers this fraud, and possibly even orchestrates this fraud. I never committed a violation, and was never notified of it. STOP THIS!
Dear xx: this is in response to your recent inquiry regarding your rental. I appreciate the opportunity to respond to your concerns.
I sincerely apologize for any confusion regarding this matter. In Italy it is not necessary for the authorities to stop a vehicle in order to issue a violation. Instead, a picture of the license number is captured, and the owner of the vehicle is billed later. When notified of the violation, Hertz provides the local authorities with the renter's contact information based on who had the vehicle out on rental at the time the alleged violation occurred. Typically Hertz receives fine information within 90 days of the incident. However, some international regions may by law have up to one year to obtain the offender's information.
An administration fee is billed each time the local authorities contact Hertz for information. Due to the increase of violation notices, Hertz can no longer absorb the additional costs associated with processing infringement notices. The administrative fee billed by Hertz is in addition to the cost of the infringement. Local authorities are required to contact the customer directly with a copy of the violation and to request payment of the fine.
Hertz is not provided a copy of the fine. According to our records, the vehicle was in your possession at the time of the alleged infraction.
I appreciate the opportunity to clarify this matter. Thank you for choosing Hertz.
Sincerely,
|

EXTRA CHARGE
Hertz Italiana Spa - ABSOLUTE CON. I have been charged an extra £106.76 for an additional driver, when the car itself was £61.48. How on earth does this make sense?! In addition I was not told at all about this charge. There was not one mention of this at all. If we knew this were the case we would have chosen another car company. I have opened a case on this matter and insist my money is refunded immediately. Stay away from HERTZ IN TRIESTE! All complaints are saying the same thing so there is clearly something not right !!
