Scam
I have published 4 books with iUniverse. Providing you understrand the process, it can be flawless. They are highly professional, but you must be the driver of the end result. They cannot make a lousy book into a best seller. I'd recommend them to anyone willing to work professionally throughout the process.

Scam
I can only speak for myself. I have published many times with iUniverse and you can view these publications on my web site, http://www.lawrenceclarke-authorplaywright.com. I have found them at all times to be professional just like their sister companies, Dorrance and Xlibris. (Yes, they sail under the same banner.) As with any vanity press, if your book is reasonable or you are prepared to pay to make it thus, they will publish it. It would have to be pretty bad for them to refuse publication. I, myself, do all my own editing and go straight to 'go' thus cutting out the toing and froing and the extra dollars concerned. I have not, with any of my books, found publication with this firm to be any more than what was quoted. Yes, they chase you to market your work, and I agree that it is a waste of time and your money. Then do it yourself as I have. They don't twist arms. When I tell them to 'back off' they do.

Scam
I have posted here before and I do not think iUniverse is a scam, but they are definitely not a publisher for authors. They are in the business of publishing books, bot selling them. The few that do make sales yes they make money off of, but the true force that drives them is getting money from people who publish. so you cannot complain if you go through them because as we all know, anyone can get published through them. Does this mean they are a scam? No, it just means that they are in the business of publishing books, NOT SELLING THEM. There are many other companies in my opinion that can do a better job then iUniverse and who are cheaper. This does not mean iUniverse are crooks, it just means they are like any other business, they have their selling points. I am grateful for my experience with iUniverse because I know what to look for in publishing and have seen the true side of book sales. So if you publish with iUniverse trying to be the next best seller, it is possible, but not likely. I mean we could all win the lottery next week, but that does not mean it is a likely chance. Selling books is like any other business. It takes money whether it is form you or someone else. Product placement takes money so quit complaining because if you are that desperate to pay someone to publish your book it does not mean you cannot make money, just means not very many people will. If you want the great results then spend the money to start your own publishing company, but anyone looking at a place like iUniverse cannot do that or else they would not consider iUniverse. I published two books with them, made some money and got a lot of great insight and experience and did book signings. Over 10 years later I moved on to do it myself after saving money and getting a business going. Just because you are not successful doe snot make a place a scam. So quit whining and take ownership for your actions. iUniverse is not a traditional publisher but we all know that. These people trying to slash and defend them is pathetic. They are what they are. Point is, if you cannot get published by a traditional publisher and have to pay someone to do it then if you are not successful then it just means you suck as a writer. Point blank.I made money when I got published, so I never complained. However I feel I could make more money going my own route. I may not make millions but I am making profit. Something to think about.
