Beware! Don't burn your house!
It just happened to us: The oven was burning the food, and would not turn off. Sears Kenmore model 790.93751103 (as marked on the label in the warming drawer). Serial # VF24333091.

Beware! Don't burn your house!
Update: I filed a report with the CPSC, and also sent e-mail to the Sears e-mail address for safety issues. A Sears guy called me back. He offered a free service call, I said no thanks, because we planned to replace it. Then he offered me a discount (I think it was 30%) on buying a new one. I said no thanks again, because we won't be buying a Sears brand. He said the offers were good for 30 days if I changed my mind. -Pete

Beware! Don't burn your house!
Just rented a house a month ago with a Kenmore glasstop oven (790.95423301) and tonight while using the oven and one burner there was a bright flash of light and a loud pop and the entire stove went dead. I immediately went and turned the breaker off to the stove. I was cooking french fries in oil on the burner and am relieved nothing more serious happened when that electrical flash happened. After reading all these posts and other websites, I am very nervous about whether the landlord will just have the stove repaired - hopefully he'll replace it after I tell him about the problems with all these Kenmore stoves.
And I just have to add that I am ashamed of this country constantly using other countries (i.e. China) to make all of our products anymore, and exceptionally crappy products at that.

Beware! Don't burn your house!
We have three year old Kenmore Elite 790 double ovens which have always had a bit of a chemical smell when they are turned on. They were especially bad in the beginning. However, Recently, both ovens started smoking when you turn them on and it smells like some strong chemical. It's very scary. I got a terrible headache. Had to go outside. Have not used ovens since. We are calling Sears but from the sound of the other complaints we don't know if they will do anything for us. These were expensive ovens. I am furious. I don't want our health compromised. Someone on a threat said they give off formaldehyde. It true, I am reporting them to a number of places, including CNN. Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen.
Pray for all of us who own Kenmores to get this straightened out.

Beware! Don't burn your house!
Formeldahyde is found in many things, new clothing for one, which the levels of are unregulated. That is a good reason to wash all new clothing before wearing.

Beware! Don't burn your house!
A used Kenmore range was in my house when I purchased it in 2006. The only number I can find is PLT083-2. I can't look behind it because I'm disabled and can't move it out. The lower element in the oven caught fire a few days ago, and now I have no oven. Being it's a used range when I got it, I don't think I could get a refund or help from Sears. Should I try to buy and replace the element? Or should I just junk the range and get a new one?

Fire
I have a Sears Kenmore Oven model # 790 961 0280 and it caught on fire after 3 years of use. We also had a glass casserole dish explode while it was sitting on top of the stove. My daughter was doing dishes and she had set the casserole dish on top of the stove. The stove was not on but all of the sudden with her back turned to it this pyrex, oven safe, casserole dish exploded into hundreds of pieces and went flying through out my kitchen. We are real lucky she was not pierced by one of the glass pieces. The other day we were getting ready to use the stove and my grandson walked in the back door and he could see the flames through the oven door and yelled at his mom. The bottom heating element caught on fire. I have asked sears about recalls and of course they have not heard anything about a recall on their appliances. Would not even tell me where to direct my concerns. I will not be buying another sears appliance!

Beware! Don't burn your house!
My Kenmore electric range replaced a 1972 General Electric range. The GE range is still working fine. I gave it to a friend and he is still using it.
My kenmore oven had a fire this morning. I had to unplug it to get the burning to stop. I was lucky I was standing right beside it when it caught fire.
If it were possible for me to roll the darn thing out in to the snow, it would be there now. I won't even give this one away. I will have it taken in for scrap.
Any one have an old GE electric range for sale? No more kenmore for me.

Beware! Don't burn your house!
I have a electric oven from Sears. It is 2 years old. There is a loud popping sound when the oven is on. Had a Sears service man come and he indicated that there is nothing wrong with the oven. He said that the bottom plate is expanding and there is nothing to worry about. I do not agree but do not know what to do next. Do not want the stove to catch fire like others have had. Can someone give me more idea's.

Beware! Don't burn your house!
Tonight 2/23/12 our Kenmore Elite Dual Fuel Range (79079383400) caught fire. My husband and I heard strange cracking/popping sounds and saw the clock display was fading out and black smoke was pouring out the back of the unit.
My husband and I got extremely scared since we didn’t know what to do. This problem could have resulted in a serious fire. We have black smoke on our wall.
Could someone please contact with their advise on how to resolve this problem. I bought the stove at Sears and I just emailed them.

Beware! Don't burn your house!
Just happened to us last night. We have a Kenmore Range -Super Capacity model 65595012, purchased in Aug 2003. We were baking french fries in the oven, I turned off the oven, placed the fries back in the oven to stay warm. 10 minutes later, went back to the oven to retrieve the fries, they were burned and smoking... the bottom baking element was still on and red/white hot despite the oven being "off". We tried the off button several times and finally cut the power to the oven with the circuit breaker. From reading the previous complaints, we are lucky we didn't have a fire as well! I have been on the phone with sears and their customer service, as well as emailing the customer service, but not getting anywhere, they call it "normal where and tear"!
