poor decisions
I'm a 50-ish year old male. I grew up wearing Levi's jeans. They were great jeans. They were comfortable and lasted forever. My favorite Levi's styles were the 505 and 501. I also wore some 501 shrink to fit in later years. Starting about 6 or 7 years ago, Levi's altered the design of these iconic styles. I simply can't wear the 505's anymore. The rise is much too low. I've tried them twice over the past 7 years, and they are very uncomfortable. The denim is much thinner as well. The most recent pair I bought, in 2017, had two colored thread stitching on the rear pockets. In my opinion, you might as well embroider a flower on the pocket. These used to be men's working jeans. Now they are "pretty" jeans. I sold them at a yard sale for $5. The 501's have the same type of design flaws. They are much thinner than a few years ago. The hem of the legs have been shortened to about 1/4". They really look ridiculous. The stitching on the inseam switched from two rows to one. This makes them look dainty. It's almost like someone went through every aspect of the jean, and cheapened it. Fabric weight, rise, length of pockets and hem length are all altered for the worse. The worse part of all this is the pricing. Levi's are not cheap (price wise). Competitors make jeans with much heavier denim weight, more comfortable fit and last just as long or longer than any pair of Levi's. And some styles are half the price compared to Levi's. It's no wonder I no longer buy Levi's jeans. I'm sure I'm not alone. There are too many better alternatives out there. Even the Wrangler Five Star Premium Denim jeans you find in Walmart for $18 are superior to any pair of Levi's 505. Too bad Levi's sacrificed quality for profit. It's just a matter of time before they are referred to as an 'also ran' in the jeans industry, rather than completely dominating it.
