beware

Whoever wants to use Live Auctioneers, beware! These guys don't offer any bidder protection and the auction sellers are fraudulent. All the sellers can file bad reports about bidders and Live Auctioneers will block the account of a bidder. This is just not fair. Beware of Live Auctioneers!

Unscrupulous Auction Houses

Be very cautious when bidding at any of the auctions houses listed with LiveAuctioneers. First of all, every auction house, without exception, has a disclaimer stating they are not responsible for the condition of their items. Listed below is a typical example of the "terms and conditions" of most auction houses.

All items are sold AS IS, WHERE IS AND ALL SALES ARE FINAL. All items are described to the best of our knowledge, however neither the auction house nor its consignor makes any warranties or representations express or implied with respect to such property as to the physical condition, quality, rarity, importance, provenance, medium, period, origin, or estimated value of any lot sold. No statement anywhere, whether oral or written, whether made in the catalogue, advertisement, bill of sale or remarks by staff or the auctioneer, shall be considered a warranty representation or assumption of liability.

In other words, an auction house can describe one of its "lots" as being in good condition when the item(s) have broken or missing parts. The legal disclaimer, (written by unscrupulous lawyers) waives all rights to any recourse by the buyer if something goes wrong. As a result of this "as is" disclaimer, there are no protections for the buyer and the auction house cannot be held responsible for any blatant misrepresentations they may choose to make. If you are under the mistaken impression that you'll be protected if you contact the auction house, in advance, about the condition of the item, they will actually lie to you on the phone. Believe me, it's happened to me. Also, the photos of the lots can be deceiving. They'll take photos from far enough away that you can't see the damage. If you are interested in an item, ask the auction house to email additional close up photos to you if you're not certain of the condition. Also, shill bidding is a rampant practice at many auction houses. Most consider it a normal course of doing business. Look at past auctions to get an idea of the value of something and don't get caught up in the moment when you're bidding. Trust me, you'll end up feeling "buyer's remorse" if you do. Always remember to include the buyers premium in the calculation of your bid price. Also, beware of the shippers, since they'll try to gouge you, as well. Call them in advance to get an estimate of the shipping fees. Ask the shipper for his/her name. That way if you win the bid and they try to charge you double the estimate, you can take them to task on it. The shippers know that you've already paid for the item and, most likely, you live in another state, which places them at an advantage when negotiating the shipping costs. They pretty much have you over a barrel if you can't find another shipper in the area, and the auction house will charge you exorbitant storage fees if you don't arrange to have your item shipped, usually within a five day period.

Well, I think I've covered a few of the possible dilemmas that can occur with auction houses. I should mention that LiveAuctioneers will do nothing to intervene on your behalf if you're scammed by an auction house. The auction houses are LiveAuctioneers bread and butter. They make millions of dollars every year in the fees they charge the auction houses and they could care less about you. You're on your own. Keep in mind, there are a few reputable auction houses that are not dishonest, and you can find some wonderful antiques at a great price. Just keep in mind that every transaction should be viewed with a "caveat emptor" mindset and you'll be fine, maybe.

Took a month and a half to get back to me regarding my items I put bids on and not correct pricing for items

I bid on some items from this company and when I received my invoice it was not correct. I then proceeded to send them an email asking to explain how this happend. As to this issue for about 2 weeks straight I called them and all I got was we are trying to figure this out or will call you when we get to office. Only once did I receive a phone call back and said what lot #s are they again and what was your bids ok still researching this. Then a few more days passed and I get a invoice with the original amount that they said I owed and I already said not what I bid. Sorry for any inconvenience for this and would like to make it right either way but not paying there overly priced lots for some odd reason. Gold for example was like 1392.00 a oz. and a 10.5 and a 21.1 gram 14k necklace is what? I do believe it is $825.00 so who in there right mind would pay there prices that they claim I bid sorry but not dumb but can go online and pay that and got over a half oz of pure .9999 gold coin or a bar or anything like that. I'm just fed up wit the way they are handling this situation one way or another. So with being said 3 kings are scammers and liars as far as I'm concerned so bidders BE AWARE!!!!!!

Dispute Process is Flawed

I purchased a product from Live Auctioneers and after receiving my invoice, I called the auction house to give them my credit card information. I gave the representative my credit card info and then asked about shipping. The representative became very condescending about shipping details, so I ending by telling him to send me the shipping cost by e-mail. This person would not let the shipping issue rest, he made comments like " I don't have the cost" and " shipping is not free". He was like a dog with a bone. I hung up on him, I thought the process was complete but a few days later, I got a dispute e-mail from Live Auctioneers. I sent two responses to the auction house noting that I had given them my credit card information. Finally, this same man called me and said I told him not to run my credit card. I said, I asked you about shipping cost. He called me rude because I hung up on him. Then he started the condescending remarks again. I asked him about the shipping cost and he went around and around discussing my behavior. We got into a shouting match and I told him to forget it. Several days later,I was blackballed. What I resent is that I never got to give my side of the story. In a dispute each side should be heard before a decision is made. My record prior was 100%. Even the auction houses I used before would not let me register.
