Scammed by Locauto
I have another similar story played out at Locauto Rome Airport. They are running some kind of scam where they get the cheapest prices on price comparison sites and agencies, then make up their revenue through spurious damage claims.
Customer service is well versed in deflecting complaints and you won’t get your money back, so better to AVOID LOCAUTO AT ALL COSTS.

Scammed by Locauto
Real rip off merchants - got charged near 500 euros by Locauto Milan Malpensa for alleged damage to the windscreen (oh how coincidentally one of the exceptions to the extra CDW insurance I took out). There was no damage to the car when we dropped it off, but neither was there anyone available from Locauto to inspect the car. Kicking myself for not taking photos but hindsight is a fine thing. Locauto doctored the return document to include the damaged windscreen after we had left the country. Booked through Carhire3000 who have been pretty unhelpful with regard to my complaint - effectively they provide the camouflage behind which fraudsters like Locauto can operate. They find you the lowest cost deal but you do not know the actual hire company until only a few days before the rental start date. The number of complaints they must get against Locauto means they have to know the company is dirty. Avoid;

locauto
Another scam by Locauto.
They charged me £100.51 when there was no damage to the car that was not there before, as verified by them when I returned it.
It needed half a tank of diesel which would be maximum £35.00. When I saw this online on my account I looked them up to complain and saw all the other complaints!!
I had paid with an Mastercard that has an annual fee attached; I referred the matter immediately to their disputed transactions team, directed them to search locauto Rome and see for themselves the number of similar complaints!! They did, and then took it up for me. They credited my card in full and will leave it to Locauto to try and get the money back from them. Ha!

locauto using my credit card
Just received my Visa statement and found Locauto had dipped into my account 3 times in the past week, no reason given.
It is now November and I handed over the car at the end of June undamaged and signed off with nothing further to pay or so I thought but after reading reviews on several websites there is a need to be concerned,
I have had to cancel my current card and get reissued cards again another expense but this is the only way to prevent further unauthorsied transactions.
In the meantime Visa here in NZ are looking into my complaint and maybe a refund could be in the offing, however reading all the bad news on these guys I will not be too hopeful.
Car hire 3000 have replied that it is not their concern, so spread the word and never use them again.

Never rent from Loc Auto
On a trip with my son to Italy, I had the misfortune to rent a car from Locauto. I wish I would have read these reviews beforehand since they have obviously perfected various scams. Upon returning my car, they needed to inspect it. Mind you, I have been renting cars for almost 30 years. With a flashlight and magnifying glass, they found a hairline mark on the tire. The tire!! I would have never seen this when inspecting the vehicle, or even know to look for it. Even so, I signed papers to make my flight and I too wish I would have taken a picture myself with my phone. The later charged my credit card over $335 for damages which I disputed and lost. Locauto went so far as to send a picture of the damages. Needless to say, it was a photo of far more extensive damage than what they pointed out to me. I wonder how many times they have used that picture. Yesterday, I was notified of another $52.50 charged to my card by Locauto and I had to decline as fraudulent and my credit card company had to reissue new credit cards.

You will get Scammed!
I agree this is a horrible company and will attempt to rob you through your credit card. Locauto and Enterprise are partners in Italy. I encourage Class Action Lawsuit to end this horrible mess of a business. I also encourage all of you who feel that you have been scammed to file an international complaint through econsumer.gov.
My drama with Locauto:
I rented a VW from them in March 2015. They claim I did over €280 damage to the car but could not explain or show the damage (because it doesn't exist) plus over $70 in admin fees. I successfully disputed the charges through my American Express, so Locauto got absolutely no money from me! Six months later I received an email from an Italian collection agency stating I now have to pay over $400 because of interest fees. If I do not pay in two weeks they will turn it over to a US collection agency. Yesterday I received a letter from the same collection agency. I do hope to be able to resolve this with a US company since we have consumer protection laws and there won't be any language barriers.
My recommendations to protect yourself with any international leasing agency: (1) Use a credit card that protects their consumers, (2) do a thorough inspection with their employee and document any and all damages regardless how minor you think it may be; make sure they really document it. Some go through the motions and stick you later, (3) when you turn the vehicle in do an inspection with their employee to transfer responsibility back on them, (4) take high resolution photos before and after so if they claim damage you have some of your own credible evidence.
Bottom-line Locauto WILL scam you when you return home so you cannot easily dispute the charges. Avoid this company and read all the other reviews of this company!!!
