Charging new fee without advance notice
This company has a customer agreement whereby they state that they will send advance notice with a previous bill before the first charge of a new fee "Bill processing charge" on a monthly bill.
I have been their customer since 2006 and I trusted them not to slip something by me through the monthly bill. Then when I discovered this fee, it was February 2012 when I noticed that the total of the bill looked almost double the call charges. Then upon further digging I noticed that they started slapping this charge on my monthly bill since September 2011. They said that this fee can be waived in the future if I enroll in the E-bill program. Something they never mentioned to me before. So I enrolled and requested to have the charges refunded retroactive as of September 2011 since they didn't send me an advance notice of the charge of September 2011 up to February 2012. They claimed that this was Legit when this was a lie according to the agreement. Since they didn't inform me of the charge in advance of charging it, they should honor my trust in them of the last 5 years and refund me the charges since September 2011. They were cheap and refunded only the February 2012 charge.
This company is not trustworthy and I will no longer refer any customer to them. In fact, until they fix their act, I will recommend everyone I see who is their customer to visit this and other consumer sites so they know that this is not a one off scenario.
On top of that, if you try to be civil and ask to speak with a manager, the customer service refuses. Plus the customer agreement is tricky, all contacts by phone or email lead to the same people you want to complain about in the company. So there is no civil way of communicating with the management to attempt to put some sense into them.

Billing fraud : Charging twice
Yes. The name Antonia reminds me of a very bad experience I had when I called NECC Telecom on a mistake that NECC caused.
Anyway Upon receipt of my February 2012 bill I noticed by surprise a charge called "Bill Processing charge". A charge that wasn't there for a good 5 years as a customer of NECC. I also figured that this charge started to show on my monthly bill since September 2011. Their agreement says that they are supposed to notify the customer before charging a new fee. Not charge it first then hope the customer doesn't notice it later. So I called and learnt from NECC customer rep that if I wanted this charge to stop being charged that I should enroll in a E-bill program. So I did. That means no mail of paper bill. I never knew of this so I requested also to refund the charges since September 2011 with the tax. They refused and when I asked to speak to the supervisor the rep said that she was busy. I insisted to talk to the supervisor. Then I get a man called Ridwan acting like a supervisor when the rep had said that the supervisor was a woman. Ridwan decided to jsut refund me the February charge. Then when I got no where with Ridwan I asked to speak with the manager as NECC betrayed my trust and slipped this charge without informing me of my options in advance regarding the charge. Ridwan acted like he's the end of the line for this case. So I attempted to find other contact info for the ownership of NECC all contacts even on the agreement "where it says if you want to complain it gives you a number and an email that takes you back to Ridwan. So if you are not happy with Ridwan there is noone to complain to.
I informed Ridwan that his choices were to refund me the charge since september 2011 or save the 10$ + tax and no more referral to NECC from my end. I also said that I will open my eyes for other long distance companies. He chose to save the 10$+tax. What a cheap company with poor business ethics. Then I noticed that there are numerous complaints on NECC Telecom all across North America with the Better Business Bureau (BBB).
So beware if you do business with them. They will trick you when you least expect it.

Billing fraud : Charging twice
I currently have Bluetone for my long-distance calling (www.btone.ca) and I will be cancelling it soon. I really hate Bluetone. So many little fees (which adds up!) that I wasn't aware of when I joined over the phone, because they didn't tell me ("Transporter Surcharge", "COF Fee", etc.). The late fee for this is quite ridiculous in my opinion -- $5, even if your bill was 1 cent. They try to find every little ways to get money out of its customers. Here's the Bluetone "Terms of Service - Customer Service Agreement": https://btone.ca/Documents/BTCA/CSA.pdf.
I'm so angry at Bluetone right now. I was at Call Select before Bluetone, and they were actually way better. I did online billing with these two companies. I was with Call Select for over 1.5 year, and I was only charged for the long-distance calling (with the same country calling rate as Bluetone) and taxes. With Bluetone, I was charged for the long-distance calling (with the same country calling rate as Call Select), taxes, along with COF Fee (this one is tricky; make sure you read the Terms of Service) and Transporter Surcharge. 30% of my Bluetone bill is made up of their additional fees.
My advice to everyone: DO NOT GO WITH BLUETONE.
Thanks.
