Hello, All.
I'm a single mother w/ a 6'1/2" teenager. I told my PAW representative "Greg, " that my daughter was my inspiration for my vision God gave me 16yrs ago when I brought my daughter home from the hospital. My invention concept would be a God-send to new parents everywhere.
Of course "Greg" agreed, and said that after holding a "meeting" with the PAW staff it was agreed that my idea concept would be ideal for many markets. Like a great deal of you, I was initially quoted $1, 295 back in Dec 2011. As of yesterday, Fri, 1/20, Greg called me back to lower the initial $1, 295 to $995. I won't lie: I did find that suspect (and foolish). I've had a stomach ache ever since, and have been researching EVEN MORE PAW complaints and praises.
I'm not sure if the good reviews in this forum are just transplanted PAW representatives.
This sickens me, as my concept truly is legitimate and marketable. I currently have $1, 600 saved, and Greg called me yesterday to lower the price to $995.
I began sternly warning and reminding him I'm a single mother who canNOT be taken in, and that I'll need for him to be UP-FRONT with me about EVERYTHING. I pressed and pressed Greg re: are you sure after I front the $995 down from $1, 295, that I won't be required to paying anything else?!
He said after the Legal Dept looks everything over, I could possibly have to come up with anything from $2, 000 - $15, 000 for the Patent. I aked him: "You saw how long it took for me to come up w/ the $1, 600 I have now, right?!" (Also, I took out a Payday loan 2 days ago to bump up my Invention Savings... I told Greg this info, too.)
Greg tried to assure me that their Legal Dept would work with me on payment options. I took this to mean loans, etc.
I told Greg my credit is on two (2) crutches and that loans would NOT be an option. He then began trying to assure me, "Nobody wants to lose money. If you lose, we lose. We believe in your product, which is why we're trying to absorb as much as the costs as possible."
I warned him about that before, admonishing him that I (ME!) want to absorb as much as the costs as possible, because it's MY concept, inspired by MY daughter. He then reminded me that the financial split would be 90% (inventor) / 10% (PAW), no matter who absorbs the lion's share of the costs going in.
An earlier poster in this forum said something highly suspect: they're attending the Vegas tradeshow in May to promote their concept. Now, I asked Greg yesterday while I had him on the phone if I would be allowed to attend the Vegas tradeshow in May, considering it's MY concept.
He said, "Not all tradeshows allow the general public to attend." I replied, "I'm NOT the 'general public.' I'M the inventor. It's my baby, and isn't it MY right to decide who gets to hold my baby?!" He agreed, but said that those were the rules.
Now I'm really nervous about an earlier poster in here who said that if no interest is generated at tradeshows then PAW is not required to contact the Inventor.
For crying out loud, then, who IS a reputable invention / manufacturing company, then?!?
Greg's anticipating me to call with my debit card info on Monday morning 1/23. I will call, but not with my debit card info, but with my findings on this and other threads. What am I going to do, now? PAW has my idea, illustrations and synopsis, as well...???

Is there a way to get you money back? :-( because I gave PAW like $7000 and the only thing I got from it was a paper that said "patent pending #" and letters from GLP that I had to sign and send out other than that no good results..

Glad I found this site...I am supposed to be getting my packet soon. Adam tells me they'll be able to get my idea to a trade show by June. Hmmm...thought it sounded too good to be true. Glad I'm a skeptic. Guess I'm back to square one.

The best way to get a patent is to consult with a patent attorney not a company that claims results that seem too good to be true.

Thanks to everyone who has shared their experience. I am supposed to call with my debit card number tomorrow to pay $1295. They originally quoted me $4000 but said that he would have a meeting and see if they cound absorb some of the costs. I highly doubt I will be doing that anymore. If it wasnt for me bringing my sister in on the phone call last night I wouldnt have even researched PAW. Tg3, you couldnt have said it any better. First off I dont know how they got my phone number because I entered it in a different site, but I overlooked that thinking I was just mistaken. I shortly after recieve a phone call which like said above sounds rehearsed. After our initial conversation about the idea, Adam calls me and tells me that the main boss really took to my idea at the meeting. So we have kept in contact the last two weeks or so to discuss my idea. Problem is that my schedule is pretty hectic so I miss phone calls from him quite often. I can hear in his tone of voice on my voicemails that he is getting frustrated with how much this process is being drug out. He normally calls at least 2 times a day. He is extreamly pushy. He kept asking me last night when I thought I would have the payment by so we could move foward with the process. One thing different about my experience was that when I questioned about finaces he was upfront and said that after this process in later steps it could cost as much as $15, 000 but not to worry about that figure because they would work with me on that if finances are an issue for me.
I have reviewed the paperwork in the first packet he sent and in the contract it does very well state the things mentioned above. I am so glad to have looked into this. I shouldve gone with my gutt feeling about this. I knew something was not right when it sounded like he was reading stuff straight from the computer screen. PAW should be ashamed of themselves. Thanks again everyone for saving me from having to take a loan out for something that wouldve been a total loss of money.

I have been considering using PAW as well and all of the comments above were very helpful in my descion. Something interesting about what " paw is great" posted is that it's an identical post on another website word for word, (http://inventorspotforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=1658), with a different user name. (Raphael White belt) The posts are almost a year apart.

I have gone through the initial stage of submitting and idea and a sketch and having the committe approve it and be excited about it. I was told that they would charge ten percent and that I would not have to put money up front. I explained how I did not have the money with my credit card nearly maxed and receiving some money for food stamps. Now I am waiting for the packet in the mail. Thanks for the words of caution because I heard about a university study of my idea, a graphic designer, a patent attorney, and others who would need to be involved.
I did notice that although they initially said there would not be out of pocket fees or led me to believe that with the 10 percent fee concept, I have noticed that the rep. is leading to bringing money for me to pay into the picture which before seemed rosey and free upfront. I was wondering how a university can do market research on my idea and still keep it a secret.
The thought came to me to submit more ideas for inventions and I was using the web to find their site. The search led me to this blog. To my surprise it is being played out just as many have describeed only a woman is giving me the sales information. She seems professional and does have an agenda that she is following. I do not plan to send them money after reading these comments.
Perhaps the safest way is to do the work myself as much as is possible and work with reputable professionals when necessary. Thanks again for the words of warning. Stuart

I too am currently working with PAW. I read all of the posts and obviously there is a process so that explains why everyone has to pay the initial investments. Like a lot of people there is a concern about filling out a contract and giving nearly $1300 to some company you have yet seen. So my advisor calls me and I raise to question the credibility of PAW. Immediatley there is a sense of resentment if i bring up anything about a complaint board because it is offensive for all the hardworking people at PAW. They will ask, "well is this complaint paper traceable". Well of course it isnt its an online complaint board. Now one question i asked was what is your success rate as far as patents etc. and this information of course is not disclosable yada yada.
so I gave my proposition, i said if you want my capital investment then fine, but first i need to physically see this company and meet with someone. If you can show me the legitimateness (if thats a word) of this company, you will have me 100% of the way. I will post again saying what they tell me.

As i posted earlier about PAW and my goal to get a flight out to see the company, plainly stated no success. I was told that it would be a display of favoritism which they dont engage in. Needless to say PAW will not be receiving any money from me regardless because i read the fine print. YOU MUST READ THE AGREEMENT POLICY. Here it states that, "The Inventor acknowledges that Patent Assistance Worldwide does not engage in the business of invention development or marketing services. No inventors have received a net financial gain as a result of PAW services. No inventors have contracted with PAW for invention promotion services during the past five (5) years. Patent Assistance Worldwide does not perform market evaluations or give opinions of marketing potential on any invention submitted for review. PAW has no customers that purchase marketing promotion services. No inventors have received licensing agreements for their inventions as a direct result of any invention promotion services through PAW. Neither PAW nor its officers of record have been affiliated with any invention promotion companies. PAW only provides patent assistance services and informational materials related to the invention industry." and please note, if you are going through this process and you are skeptical about PAW and my own credibility for some online post email me at [email protected]... my name is Rob
