Bait and Switch
Any "financial instrument" from the banksters and credit companies are for their own benefit. Any benefit one manages to eek from such a thing is inconsequential to them, a side dish at best! So when Mastercard puts out a "Vanilla" pre-paid credit card - it's only good for Mastercard. If you manage to get good out of it - great - but that is not the purpose of the card. The purpose of the card is to sucker people into making use of Mastercard's credit and then charging a hellish amount for said use.
To be honest, I surprised you didn't end up owing!

That is not bait and switch. All cards have terms and it is the responsibility of the recipient to familiarize themselves with those terms before use. Posting your name and personal email address on a public website is a really bad idea BTW.

Vanillamastercard is a god damn scam. We recieved one for as a gift when our son was born. We wanted to save it for a bit and get him something nice. We tried to use is after a year and it get declined. I guess you have to read the fine print vanillamastercard.com starts stealling from you after 7 months 2.50 at a time. By the time we went to use it was only good for 37.50. Nice gift for my son Vanillamastercard.com.

service charges!!!
Not only do they charge tax when it is purchased....a monthly fee of 2.50 is charged as well!?
This info is printed right on the back of the card. High way robbery. Why is tax even charged??
I am not impressed I would have loved to buy these for my college student for food and living expenses but if its not all used up in the first month I would loose 2.50 of my MONEY for every month its not used up! This should be thrown out on the useless pile for ideas. The only one making money is MASTERCARD.

prepaid gift cards declined
I bought 2 Vanilla MasterCard cards - 1 x $25.00 and 1 x $50.00 - one month ago at a 7/11 store, which were activated at the very moment of purchase. Three times now, I tried to use them for online purchase, but in vain. The cards have been declined every time.
Would you mind explaining what is happening, please.

Card declined
Well, I purchased a card to play Jackpot city, as I have done in the past because I feel this is a safer way for me to play and have some enjoyment at home. When I tried to use the card last night it was declined, we called and were told it was never allowed to be used on on-line gambling sites and if the cards previous went through we should consider ourselves very lucky. I am disgusted because we have used these cards for a couple of years doing this and now all of a sudden it is an issue. I strongly feel as though I am being DICTATED as to how I spend my money, this is not fair, it was my money that purchased the card I should be able to spend the way I want. I will say this, I will NEVER NEVER purchase their cards again and they can stick them up their you know what!!!!

Don't purchase -worst customer service
Purchased the "temporary" card on September 9, 2019. Didn't know it was temporary as those details are lacking until you purchase the card and read the pamphlet inside of the sealed packaging. I've been waiting on my actual card ever since. Today is October 1st! I have called 3 times, each time asking to speak with a supervisor and each time I've been declined and my requests ignored. I was told on September 22nd that my card went to the wrong address and a new card would be sent out that day. Nine days later I'm being told I have to wait until October 4th and if it doesn't arrive then I'm to call back, but I can't speak with a supervisor. I was advised on September 22nd that a supervisor would call me back, but that has not happened. This company and its agents are not sympathetic, lack customer service skills and make no concessions or arrangements to lend to a good customer experience. There is no choice for no stars hence the 1 star.
