Overpriced “taxes/fees”

Went on to book a hotel as they said it would be a big discount. But what I discovered is I was paying more using veterans advantage because of their high taxes and fees tacked on to the hotel price. Since the hotel cost did come up at a discounted rate, Makes me wonder if they’re not pocketing the extra they are charging for the taxes and fees. The hotel websites without a discount only charged me $17 for the taxes and fees on $107 room. Veterans advantage charged me $33 on a room that was 95. Which made it cheaper to book through the hotel‘s website . They get enough money off of me for my yearly fee, I think it’s pretty crappy of them to over charge and Call it a good deal. This reeks of a scam to me.
