Mislead and Coerced into buying a new membership
Hi there,
we have had the same problem at World Health Glenora location. The consultant's name was also Chris. The person was told they were signing a month to month contract and it ended up being a 12-month contract. We are trying to build a case against this gym. If you have any experiences PLEASE contact me at [email protected] with any information or experiences you may have.
If any of the above posters could get in touch with me this would be VERY helpful.
Regards,
Morgan

misleading won't stop charges
Anyone with World Health Club problems please shoot me an email at [email protected]
We are having problems as well and would like to form some kind of group to look at ways to take action against the company.
They are treating people without consideration or empathy in regards to their contracts; this is wrong and someone has to put a stop to this.
Sincerely,
Morgan Peacock

Mislead and Coerced into buying a new membership
Thanks Morgan,
I was very frustrated by the way I was treated by the management at this gym. I don't agree with the way they handle their business or customer service. I never used this gym once and I ended up paying over $100.00 just to cancel out of this membership. I have learned my lesson, not to rush into any contracts in the future; however, I would like something to be done to stop other people from being deceived by this company.
Communication and Customer service is very important in today's business but companies need to be held for their misleading representation, see below.
False or misleading representations
52. (1) No person shall, for the purpose of promoting, directly or indirectly, the supply or use of a product or ... any business interest, by any means whatever, knowingly or recklessly make a representation to the public that is false or misleading in a material respect.
(5) ... liable to a fine in the discretion of the court or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years or to both; or (b) on summary conviction, to a fine not exceeding $200, 000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year, or to both.

Worst Gym In Calgary
Worst gym in Calgary, they mistreat customers and offer no legitimate options for a student who needs to afford tuition, books, and other more highly ranked things in life then a gym membership. All they want is to take your money and seemingly have no regard for the reputation they gain themselves due to their lack of customer service skills. I would never recommend this gym to family or friends based off of the way I was treated by management today. Not only did the manager have me sit and wait for 30 minutes so he could discuss with other employees about my issue without me present, he also bombarded me by having 3 additional representatives to out number me during the consultation. He also told me that their contracts were more important to them then their reputation. Therefore reinforcing the fact that customer service means nothing to them. I suggest Westside Recreation Centre off of 69th street, you have access to a full gym with separated youth section, pool, lane swimming, sauna, basketball/badminton courts, as well as a skating/roller blading area. Westside offers a friendly environment that is accommodating to customer service.

screwed
Hi in October last year I signed up with the World Health Gym although I had a busy schedule I was going to try hard to keep this appointment in my life as often as i could. I was interested in the $19.00 a month no contract "membership" but was talked out of it and into a corporate membership .... at $50.00+ a month Well by March of this year I got hurt at work this put me on the shelf for a wile I thought, by July I realized this was not going to get better. Giving the Gym the paperwork from the Hospital as well as the Dr. I though my account would be suspended due to medical conditions and re-activated should I be able to return.
WRONG WRONG WRONG.... Dumb Ass
At world health they keep billing your account. and if you put a stop payment on it they go for the month payment along with service charges regardless if you can walk or not, the Bitch in the accounting department at Edgemont Branch in Calgary does not give a continental F%$ck about you, your Doctors note, Hospital Discharge Papers Long term disability or weather you can even function as a human being. All they care about is getting their money regardless of your personal situation.
In speaking to the Local Manager of the gym I signed up with we asked for a refund... NO, no refund, we asked for the time as a credit so that I could use the gym or a family member use the gym in my place as its now paid for and medical evidence was provided as to why I could not make use of the facility NO, I'm shit out of Luck with that as well.
So I filled out paperwork now canceling my account as a year has passed and I will never recommend that establishment to anybody ever again... and now a week and a half later another amount of $40.00 plus was taken from my account, I do have a call in to find out what it was for but as yet have not heard back.
As I am on Long Term Disability for a wile at least, if their is a Lawyer reading this that might be able to do something to either get my money back or at the very least have the funds available on account marked as paid and someone else of my choosing can use it. Then loosing the $400.00+ out of my account would not be in vein. Also if someone from the BBB can look into this and other aligations and either start looking into this company or de-listing it from the BBB that would be great as well.
***One note to the "Lovely Patient Empathetic Accounting Lady at World Health Edgemont (NOT)
I worked in receivables once as well and I know for a fact that when one needed to show that your call volume was where it was meant to be wile NOT really doing anything Making false notes on Clients accounts does eventually catch up with you so saying you or your office called as often as is written on my account wile I know for a fact as I have not had anything else but time on my hands at home I can assure you not one message or call was left or made to my house by you or your staff. In fact the only person we did hear from was the Branch Manager even on the same day that your notes say your branch called as he read the notes to me I was telling him if that were the case why are we speaking 45 min later with no knowledge of what was written in the notes.
SAD...

Rude Staff and Deceptive Marketing
Worst gym in Calgary period.... I recommend canceling their contracts if you have one and avoid signing up for anything if you have none. I happen to be a member which is leaving them right now. Here is my story:
Last weekend visited one of their locations that I usually do not go, for a visit and I happen to be a member. One of their sales staff asked to speak with me and starting asking questions about why am I no signing up for a higher membership plan with them so on and so forth. I politely asked to be shown the premises as I already am a member and inquired that I would like to speak with someone else. The moment I walked away from this individual, she came after me and asked me to leave the gym or she would call security to escort me out. I inquired as to why would she do that.... in her words: "We do not want customers with an attitude like you here".
Sheer fact that I did not want to listen to sales pitch was considered "attitude" by this stuck-up individual.
I contacted her manager at the gym and manager of the gym that I workout... none of them would even follow up the issue.
I am calling right now to cancel my membership and recommend anyone who value their dignity to do the same. Based on some other reviews I read here, I am not the sole victim of this deceptive marketing organization.
Smart thing I did was to pay six month in advance at their lowest priced plan in order not to have a contract. My term is about to expire in a couple of weeks and I am not renewing it.
Not all employees are rude and not all sales staff employs deceptive marketing but organizational goal looks to drive number of members to absolute maximum.... this brings the worst people to the job as well as bringing the worst out of people. Example: Countrywide Mortgages... same story... same ending. I would not be suprised if management is trying to liquidate the Gym by inflating membership numbers through this in the last six months of its life.
Been there done that... avoid at all costs.

They steal and misrepresent themselves
I signed up in Oct of 2016 with a personal trainer only to be told that he is leaving and I would be with another one (a terrible one at that). After only two sessions with him, I put my back out. I received a Doctor's note stating that I can no longer continue there. When I spoke to Steve (Fitness Manager), he told me that he had to go through his boss and then his boss had to go through his boss etc etc....so, in the meantime, they took another 1.5 months to finally decide that I could cancel...but in the mean-time, they continued to charge my credit card $250 on a bi-weekly basis. Steve told me that they had a big launch and other things took to the back burner because of it...which included me. When I finally sat down with Andres, the Manager, in Feb 2017, I had to explain everything again....so, that just told me that he was never even informed of the situation. He then told me that I was out of luck and that I would not get any type of refund what-so-ever.
Steve then told me to think about whether I wanted to come back and use the training sessions that I was roped into paying. However, forgot to mention that I would be charged another $30 on my credit card...after I was told that nothing else would be charged. Then I get another charge of $483 on my card and was told that the amount will be refunded...it's been almost a month and no refund as of yet. And last...but not least...when I went in yesterday to sign the cancelation papers, they actually had the nerve to ask me for another $100 cancellation fee....seriously?????? I told them, that's not happening.....but I'm sure I will have yet another charge on my credit card without authorization.
Do yourself a favour, do not go to this gym or any WH for that matter.....you're far better off sticking with something like the YMCA or The Trico Centre where you are valued as a customer and as a person.
WH's only focus is money...they really don't care about you or your needs....it's all about the bottom line.
OH....I was even hung-up on by head office when I called them to see what was happening. The guy was extremely rude and curt with me and then just hung up. What kind of corporation does that??????
I will be seeing a Lawyer next week. This is going to court!!!!
