Continued billing without service
Horrible service. Audio quality is so bad, you struggle to hear the person on the other side.
Of the free data they provide, their service uses most of it. You just see data disappearing without you using any of it.
I stopped using them over a year ago. Then out of the blue, they've started trying to charge me credit card for a sum of $110. Luckily for me, the credit card I used has expired.
These guys should not be allowed to be in business. They are glorified thieves.

Substandard Customer Service
My friend and I recently purchased three (3) LG G Pad 7.0 LK430 tablets from FreedomPop for $49 each. Unfortunately, this CELL PHONE provider conveniently neglected to mention in its promo material that this tablet model has NO cell phone capability whatsoever. The company sold me a prepaid one year plan that included UNLIMITED PHONE MINUTES and texts, with 1 GB of Internet, knowing full well that our devices can NEVER use even ONE minute of cell phone time! Further, this model tablet is set up for Android Lollipop, which utilizes over half of its 8 GB internal device storage for the OS, leaving insufficient space for any but a few apps. As a result, the devices run verrrry slowly.
I complained of this to FreedomPop, well within the 30-day "free trial" period, requesting a return authorization and an even exchange for a different tablet model with phone capability. Incredibly, I was blown off by the rep ("Lanieleen A") assigned to handle my matter. No resolution whatsoever was offered, and now I begin to understand why so many FP customers are bailing out and going to RingPlus.
For shame, FreedomPop. This isn't how you keep customers. And I've been one almost since Day One, even brought you other quality users. For shame!

Problem solved.....
FreedomPop just informed me that it would refund the purchase price of my LG tablets. My only regret is that it took this post to obtain a fair resolution.

Beware they are SCAMMERS
Agreed with other reviewers, FREEDOMPOP are THIEVES! I had opened a free account with them after purchasing a mifi type hotspot for a mere $20. After 6 months of having free service (and not using it because I couldn't get a signal near me) they tried CHARGING ME for paid premium service! I never signed up for premium service and when I called them all they did was go "Ooops we made an error" and didn't apologize or anything. Even for FREE service I want nothing to do with these crooks.

Customer Service is Worthless
First of all, I bought both of my sons a Galaxy s4 from this company. One phone malfunctioned and we sent it back. When I requested for a replacement, they switched phone plans and the phone numbers on both of my sons phones! (First Mistake). Eventually, we complained, to make matters worse, instead of reversing the numbers and phone plans, they change both phones to the SAME phone number. (Second Mistake). We complained AGAIN and they did absolutely NOTHING about it. (Third Mistake). I am fed up with their ignorance. I strongly recommend you do NOT chose this phone company! They charge without your permission, randomly deactivate your phone, ETC.

freedompop account suspended due to a billing issue!
hello guys, this is sondra from beloit, a year or two back i had signed up for freedompop's free wifi phone service where you can place calls using an app on your ipad or other device for free using a WIFI connection, i aint had a problem with that phone service, so i decided i would sign up for the service using an old deactivated cellular device using their bring your own device section on their website. well, after a month into the service plan "free basic 200" i had decided i did not want the premium plus voice service which costs 8 dollars "not bad if u want mms sharing and other goofy features" and that's when the problem arose. later that day "i sleep with my phone for the time," i woke up and i checked the my freedompop app which shows how much data, how many minutes, and how many texts you've sent, and it said "your account has been suspended" well i tapped on the area where it said that and it showed me the website and up at the very top it showed in a red box with yellow texting "your account is currently suspended due to a billing issue. please click here to update your billing info!" im thinking "what? god damn it, my account is suspended cause of a billing issue? how can that be if the service is friggen free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" so i wrote a nice letter to customer support sasking about it and asking out anything i may "owe" in relation to this suspension, they havent gotten back to me, and they said up to two business days for a responce. as much a radio nut as i am guys, this CANT be legal what their doing, and it sure cant be conforming to FCC rules and regulations either, do remember i have been a licensed ham operator for over fourteen years now, and i know who, and what the FCC is, and what they are all about, and you can bet, if they found out about freedompop's tactics, they would levy a humoungous fine against them maybe into the quintillions, and that is a LOT of money to be being fined too lol, that could buy you a life of world series baseball tickets too. anyway, i kind of think i regret paying the twenty dollars activation fee which is non refundable, because you only get 500 m,b of data, 200 texts and 200 voice minutes, and i do a LOT of radio streaming not limiting to monitoring of the only cross band repeater in beloit which i own and operate as a free service to amateurs. and that alone takes probably about a friggen gig to do even that! i am not trying to diss anyone, nor am i trying to say i dont like their service, but, their billing tactics are rather kind of iffy. yes you have to have either a cc or paypal to set up a first time phone account yes, but, suspending an account based on billing issues? that, is kind of shady. again, please do not interpret this message as me wanting to cancel the service cause i;d hate to do that already as i gave the number out to some people already :(. read this and tell others what you think about this company. thanks 73s. ps: the phobne i used was my brother's old lg realm, nice phone, but stilol. i love the design of the service, but not their billing tactics. thanks again and 73's. im gone

Cant make calls
I cannot sign into my account and cannot get updates or calls.
I have tried for three months to get Freedompop on the phone.
I finally got them and they were going to send me an email,
as the password reset would not work. The email never
came. I called again and again. I finally got someone who explained
the phones you receive have very little memory and that is
why they require frequent upgrades, he suggested a different
plan. I am on the fence with them right now and could tip
either way dependent on how the phone works in the future,
as right now it is a $20 a month alarm clock.

Scam
Freedom Pop is a total scam. ( BEWARE ) Cancelled my service over 6 months ago because our 2 phones never worked. They are still using my bank account and taking money out after account has been cancelled. Do not use Freedom Pop ever. They are crooks. If you speak to customer service they will tell you it has been taken care of when it has not. That is if you can ever speak to a human being,

Freedompop fail
Have been with this company a little over a year. My hotspot has not been used, nor have I been able to use it for 4 months or so. I get charged multiple times a month and no service provided. Try to log on to their site and no go because of too many re-directs. Doesnt recognise my e-mail address (either one). I cant stop the automatic withdrawal. At least my ctedit union wont let me. How do I talk to a human being at this company?

SCAM
I decided to give FreedomPop a try on home internet, but as soon as the call ended, I had a question I'd forgotten to ask.I immediately called back and got a runaround and was met with rudeness.
After over 15 minutes of that I determined as this was just the start, it wouldn't get any better. So in less than 30 minutes of the order, I canceled. I was told it would take 3 days to process the refund. Three days later and it still has not processed.
In addition, a day after cancelling, they shipped the equipment anyway. So I'm getting equipment tomorrow, that I'm going to have to return in order to get my refund I'm sure, and I won't be surprised if shipping is at my expense. And it amazes me that I now can no longer reach them. Sales says I'm a customer and won't talk to me.
They transfer me to support. When I tell them support is automated and wants my phone number to connect me and says I don't have an account, they just say I do and transfer me anyway, or just outright hangup. I even asked for cancellations, same thing happens. They won't answer my emails either.
I'm going to make this costlier than the $45 they ripped off of me, by the time I'm done with all my complaints, the BBB, FTC, disputing the charges at my bank, closing my bank account so they can't charge more, and trashing the equipment they underhandedly mailed out (IF the USPS doesn't allow me to refuse it), etc.It would have been cheaper for them to have done the refund.

"Billing error" huh?
"Accidental billing errors" seem to be a business model for this company. A main revenue stream. I too have had this corrupt, dishonest company steal money from my credit cards even after I've downgraded to their "free" (LOL) plans. Hint: You ain't gettin' nothin' for free from this company. Ever. I'm honestly surprised they're even allowed to do business at all like this...I think it's about time the government steps in and shuts these crooks down. Or at the very least Visa & MC should stop doing business with them, cutting off their lifelines. FreedomPop makes Comcast looks like saints. If they've stolen money off of your credit cards too, file a dispute with your CC company. After they get enough disputes filed against them, FP will have their merchant privileges yanked away from them. Buh-bye, FreedomPop!

I've been scammed either.....And my big question to start is : Why don't we all people get together with each and everyone complaints to prosecute Freedom pop....We all can track from records the very ways Freedom pop has been stealing, been dishonest and fraudulent out there.Crap like Freedom pop deserves that.
I bought my plan from freedom pop on the past Feb 2018 paying it off in first place.....Til today never I have received service on my slate tablet....Then I addressed them about the issues unfortunately they make it a long dilatory thing til today...
Now I realized like others fellows out there that I ve been trapped.....I want to know where any Government Office in Nj can be found that I can report the scam.

Rip off artists
I purchased one of their sim cards for a smart watch, but it didn't work. So I've never used this service. I went to their web-site and (though) I cancelled it a year ago.
It turns out that they've been charging me $40/mo for the past year. I saw some of the charges on my bank statements, but it was through Paypal, so I thought they were just ordinary purchases. $500 for a service that I have not used once. The only reason I became aware of this is that I chanced on an email notification from Paypal. From the look of the comments here, I'm just going to call the $500 lost and not deal with them. My time is worth more. Just wanted to drop this note as a warning.

PURE ROBBERY!
Got the thing Aug 2017, it did not work where I lived, I called and canceled. NO problem! They said. Thought it was settled until I just checked over charges to a credit card (I used to order) I have been paying every month since I canceled. 9.99. A small amount which is so easy to overlook...and I did. I caalled my cc co and they put a stop to the charges but I will never see what they stole from me. They count on it being so small amount that NO ONE will fight it....guess they are right.

Total Rip Off
Where do I begin? Being on a fixed income I saw some rave reviews for Freedom Pop and believed them. Big Mistake. I went on line to get their cell phone and mobile hot spot. The ads on the website were supposedly outdated (though on the website brand new) I ended up forgetting the cell phone for the bait and switch offer being too expensive and end up with $39.99 hot spot. They gave me 3 supposedly free trials. But to my surprise when I reached 75% of my data limit I was hit with a unauthorized $15.00 fee on the second day of the trial. Feeling uneasy at this point. I told the representative to cancel all my accounts and direct me to refund department for I wanted a refund on my the hot-spot since I wanted to send it back. The representative had the guts to tell me that until I paid the $15.00 they couldn't cancel my accounts and I would be charged for them the following month. That's right until I paid the $15.00 they wouldn't cancel my accounts. Stunned and shocked I put down the phone dialed back and the other representative supposedly canceled my accounts. (we'll see how that goes.) Still wanting a refund on the Hot Spot . I went on-line with their supposedly on-line support. Long story short.. some 20 emails back and forth and four more phone calls (btw you must go through the Sales Department just to speak to a live person. If not you will be booted back to automated service and hung up on.) I supposedly got an authorization and my case would be sent to refunds department to email me a authorized return shipping label to return the product. That was some two weeks ago. They never sent the label and all I get from the company are bot generated emails telling me the issue has been solved. Without me ever having received a return shipping label or a refund. After reading so many negative costumer experiences with un authorized charges. I shudder to think what I'm going to find on my bank statement next month. This is high thievery and this company needs to be put out of business. I've filed an official complaint with BBB over this company. But I have little hope of seeing a refund in my lifeltime. As I said I am on fixed income and this hurts!

Works... at home
I have a FreedomPop SIM since February. Most time the phone calls are not working if I'm not connected to wifi. So I can call or be called mostly then I am at home.
The SMS are most time received only if I am connected to wifi, Strangely they are also received at each of my call attempts without wifi. Sending SMS seems to be OK.
The data is usually working, but sometimes it doesn't at all, even if the AT&T network is found.
There is a lot of hidden costs. To the SIM price, you have to add the mailing price which is very overpriced (about $10 for a 4-5 days mail), you also have to add a mandatory "account balance" of at least $10 if you don't register to any paid plan or service (more exactly if you unregister from the paid plan they automatically register you as a fake free trial - I say fake cause if you unregister but have used more than the basic plan allows you, you then have to pay for that you tried...). The account balance automatically expires after 30 days of credit inactivity (meaning FreedomPop takes your money for nothing), and then the automatic top-up that you can't disable without subscribing a paid service may take $10 again. You have a few days to re-activate your balance and avoid paying $10 each month for a so called free plan, but you have to think about it every 30 days.
The support is bad. I tried to set the SIM PIN and so was needing the default PIN. I found a PIN in my user space on FreedomPop website. Not the good one. I contacted the support, they pretended it is 0000. Wrong. I locked my SIM card and so I asked the support for the PUK code. The pretended is is 00000000. Wrong to. After several exchanges, they ended up stating that their voice SIM neither have a PIN nor a PUK, and that I should not had tried to set a PIN. They refused to send me a new SIM for free, despite the fact that I locked my SIM after they gave me a bad answer. I had to buy a new one.
If you still want to give it a try, I advise you to create a dedicated Paypal account, use it to buy what you want from FreedomPop and then remove from your dedicated Paypal account any means of payment, so FreedomPop won't be able to suck your money.

Everyone should report Freedompop scam to BBB
All I can say is that stay away from Freedompop.com. Avoid it at ALL cost. Use other providers, at least you know what you are paying up front. Their service is very bad, most of time does NOT work. You end up using your own ISP and WiFi. And they oftentimes doing unauthorized charges to your default credit card, which is required (or Paypal account) when register with them. So unless you are careful to check, you may not even realize they are charging you for nothing.
And the best way to ask for money back is to go through your credit card banks. Because it will be very hard, if possible at all, to get any refund for unauthorized charges from this shoddy company.
their terms is very confusing, hard to understand, and contradictory each other from one place to another, all on their web site. Yet certainly to the advantage of themselves, so planting the seed to freely charging confused customers.
I agree with previous poster, this company should be shut down. It is nothing but a scam.

THEY WILL BE CHARGING YOU FEES AT WILL
FreedomPop will not give you any decent service unless (supposedly) you want to pay for that service. Never cancel an account because they will hit you up for $20 nowadays, even if that was never part of the agreement. Also any service may be increase in cost when they choose to do so as with the rollover service. Don't be surprised if one day (like happened to me) they decide to eliminate a service and send you a message to click and order a new sim to match the changes. They won't tell you that you will lose your old data and be charged at new rates for a new plan and service! When you downgrade, even if you have way in excess of the monthly allotment of data, expect them to charge you the $20 fee anyway to cover their "losses" just in case you would go over, which in my case each time you downgrade or close an account.
Buyer beware, they are no reputable in that they do not inform you that they can change and charge what they want anytime. Good luck ever getting a fair shake!
I originally tried them to try various items and plans for the next time I could switch away from ATT after umpteenth years. Now I know that there is now way that I would swap to a company that over charges and never corrects that. ATT has been far better and goes over board treating you right, even if they cost more.

Scammer, liar, horrible dishonest people
First of all, one thing FreedomPop does well is getting their people to write fake reviews here praising them. Good jod, good job....now onto the real truth and those who actually have their service can understand.
I got this in mid 2016 because I just needed one for call when I am out, which is rarely. I have wifi/internet at home and I work from home. I got unlimited text/talk and 1gb data for about $80 and paid extra $20 for group chat. However I got their cdma phone so I was unable to switch more than a year later when my son broke my phone. Then less than a year ago, they had a sale of the same prepaid card for $50 so I bought one and got a unlocked use phone for it. I also add the group chat/texting for another $20. A few months ago, I keep getting a 2mb data usage out of nowhere but never affected me because I don't use up any data to begin with. Less than a week ago they had a update to their messaging app and I did that. Right away I got message I used near my max, first time ever but still under the 1gb. This was at the end of my last cycle. Then on Nov 26 I went out and the first thing I got was I used all my data and need to top off. I wasn't able to use my phone at all. I came home and check my usage online and saw they drained my entire 1gb for the month in less than 50 mins on Nov 24 at around 7ish pm. I as at home on wifi with their data turned off as usual. I checked my phone and saw it was running in the background when I turned of data already. Wow, I checked the months before and notice each month my data usage keep going up and used all by their app. I have on option for my phone to switch to wifi at home or anywhere that has it and manually check each time for more than 2+ years with them so I know for sure. My phone showed them running in the backgound on their own. So all my month's data gone 50min on the first day of cycle and I no longer able to use my phone. I called but not allow to speak to them unless I paid a monthly fee. Either I top off, which mean keep paying $20 each time just to having them drained data within mins, even when you are not using your phones. The only app that used all this was their app. I have other running which uses less than a few megs each for the whole cycle. Also, beware if you add your cc to your account, they will charge you out of nowhere.

No Refund - Over Charge Customer
I wanted to try out to see if it's really free cell phone service, so signed up, but my phone wasn't ready, and missed the 14 day trial period. I realized that when I was charged a monthly fee, so the next day I went online to downgrade. While I was considering all the options, I clicked one service, before I knew what it was, I was immediately charged another fee. I immediately asked for a refund for the 2 charges which I never used, but was told that there was no refund. I think they lure customer in, then over charge them.

DON'T DO IT
If you are reading these reviews to decide if you should go with FreedomPop and thinking that perhaps you will be spared all the grief outlined here I have only one bit of advice: DON'T DO IT. Do NOT give FreedomPop a try. They are criminals.
I ignored the reviews and am their latest victim. I haven't been burned as bad as many, but then I'm not out of it yet...
I purchased what was said to be a hotspot a couple months ago for $40..
Turns out it's really a SIM card account, but that's not the problem...
The problem is the illegal and immoral activities of their agents and management.
So I got the 1GB "free" trial and a "premium" service that includes rollover , etc.
So the monthly cost was to be $22 after the trial. I decided that I didn't want the premium plan so in cancelling it the pop up offering was to downgrade to free rollover. OK, sounds great! Only they lied. They billed my cc $4. Strike One.
I also was going to downgrade to the "free" service but the pop up said No Please! How about 2gigs for the price of one for three months, just stay at 12.99/mo
OK, sounds great! So they won't refund the $4 they took on a lie, but they put the credit against the monthly plan...but now the extra GB per month is just gone.
Strike Two.
Out trying to use the device now. A month has suddenly become 25 days long.
They billed me for a month on January 2nd and it looks like another charge is set for January 27th. Maybe the months are shorter in California?
Anyways, STRIKE THREE!
Bonus! The cc we have on file with them was compromised this month with $3500 worth of charges attempted to Build.com (of California!). No proof (yet) that FP was behind this, but I am working with the cc companies to see if we can isolate any future fraud to them.
FreedomPop is a criminal enterprise. Expect to be hearing about their demise soon. If you are a fraud victim of FP please contact the BBB. I will post again soon with details on how to do that. If your credit card on file with FP has also been mysteriously compromised and you even SUSPECT FreedomPop please please tell your cc companies. If enough people speak up, they will investigate...
If you are smarter than me you will just heed all the reviews and stay far away from FreedomPop to begin with!
